Okay, so as a guy, I have shoulder length red hair. I need to get it cut but I want it to be long still.

I'm considering dying black, maybe with blond highlights in the front?

Im not sure what to do.

Roundish face, dark red hair (orange really, red is just the term, for those that don't know. I get a lot of people telling me 'omg it's orange not red' and i get pissed) and it's sort of blondish-brownish already. Would be easy to die a darker or lighter color, it's really a mix of everything.

Oh, and is black with bright tips still in style? Was also considering, instead of the blond highlights, getting neon green tips on black, figured that'd be kind of cool. Answers from ladies or guys are fine.

Black is very cheesy at this point. Don't go black, especially with blond streaks in the front. That was very 1990's...

With dying it, if you go lighter, keep in mind that your hair still has red undertones. If you try to go blonde, your hair is going to turn vivid orange, or pinkish. (I'm a redhead. Take it from my experience) Go darker. Just not black- its so cliche and melodramatic. I'd say just leave the red, honestly. Deepen it to auburn if you dislike the orange. If you try to put neon green tips on red hair without a serious bleach job first, its going to turn gray. (red hair + bleach = light orange/pink. Red + Green = gray) If you try to keep your hair long after a serious bleach job, its going to be so damaged that you'll have to cut it. Its one or the other, sugar.

And I'd second the girl who posted first- short hair on guys is really much more attractive. (Again, long hair on guys sort of went out with the 90's.. you may want brush up on style) If you want to keep it long, be prepared to put just as much effort into it as a girl would. That includes styling, products, upkeep, conditioner.. If it has to be long, get it layered and styled so it looks attractive. There is nothing less attractive on a guy then horribly unkempt long hair. "Its only long because my mom can't make me cut it" long hair, that is only long because it hasn't been cut in a long time. Ick.

and dye it lighter to a strawberry blonde very cute on boys when short like averge boy length and dont get green looks soo tacky!

and not black it would make you look emo

Definitely not strawberry blonde, EW!! I'd go for a sandy blonde, definitely not BLACK, if you have natural red hair you will be scary looking, LOL!! My cousin has orange/red hair and he had his changed to a wheat blonde and now he's KICKING!! in looks w/ the girls if you get my drift!!

Not going to lie to you, but I think that you should just leave it alone. I love red hair and long hair, so together yours sounds perfect.

But if you decide to dye it, remember in dying your hair, it's either going to need to be maintained or it's going to look like crap. Once you've dyed it a dark color its hard to lighten back up.

I think that a good trim would do you just fine...

A dark brown would probably look good if you are a redhead, and more natural than black.

I don't know that the tips are still in style, that was a few years ago I believe.

You could keep longer in front- the sweeping bangs -and shortened a bit in back

Get rid of the shoulder length hair....shorten it up a bit, not short, but with different layers in it so its stylish,

and go a deep auburn color. That would be sexy. Totally the rocker chic!

O.K I would suggest that you get layers cut into your hair since you are trying to maintain the length. As far as color Why black with blonde highlights? Is that your style, are you like a punk rocker type of guy? And i'm not being funny when i say that because some people can pull that off it just depends on their personal style thats why i asked. Cause maybe you should go with a brownish and blonde highlights.

keep your hair long. go ahead and dye it black... unless you have freckles.. if you have freckles dye it some sort of brown

I like faux hawks on guys!! My husband has one and it's so sexy!! He actually used to have long hair in HS, and his family was telling me that after he got it cut short all the girls were after him ;) so theres a plus for ya! I don't have anything against long hair on men, but it doesn't work for everyone.
