I would go and buy the maxi-glide. It works great no matter what your hair looks like. A flat iron is a tool to srtaighten ppls hair. The maxi-glide is $70 and well worth it

I would suggest some serum that you can find even in grocery stores that will help with the dryness of your hair and will protect it when your ironing it. A flat iron is special for hair only I would not recommend using a clothes iron that can be very damaging and dangerous. I bought my flat iron at walmart for 15 dollars and it works excellent. You can either use a straightening iron or a curly iron to do all of your hair. It is easier to achieve curls with the description that you gave about your hair. That said, try using some detangler spray on your hair (like Johnson's Buddies) and once your hair is completely dry, use a curling iron and curl the ends. You should do the same if you are straightening, except you need to use a straightening iron and apply it to all of your hair. Remember to blow dry your hair completely before styling it. I recommend Chi ceramic irons.

A flat iron is a straightener and just like a curling iron but flat and you can get it at wal-mart or target, I have one myself called, HAIRART it costs me $100 but it works great!! and 3 year warranty. I suggest getting a chopy layered up to the sholders, haircut along with streakes in it...and get yourself some hair gloss and also get some deep conditioner if your are going to dye it.

You should invest in a CHI brand flat iron for your hair. It will cost you anywhere from $90-$160 depending on the size you get, but they work the best and will last forever! Once you straighten your hair with the CHI iron it smooths the cuticle and your hair will absolutely NOT curl until you wash it again or wet it down.
